I-Share "Universal Catalog"

From the Law Library: I-Share "Universal Catalog" to change to new interface June 1

The I-Share "Universal Catalog" will have a new look and new functionality as of June 1, 2010. The catalog will be switched to the Vu-Find interface, which features a simpler, more "Google-like" search. The Vu-Find interface also has the ability to narrow search results easily by various criteria, to save "favorites," and to view cover images and book reviews. The interface is now available for preview at Please note that the "Classic Search" button in the upper right hand corner will be removed on June 1; after that date, only the Vu-Find interface will be available for searching the Universal Catalog.

If you want to request materials from other I-Share libraries through Vu-Find, you will first need to set up a Vu-Find account. Unlike the current interface which requires you to input your 16-digit OneCard ID number and last name to log in, you can select your own user name and password for your Vu-Find account. The setup process will link your Vu-Find account to your NIU OneCard ID number, and after that you simply log in with your Vu-Find account information. You may also renew items and view your requests, just as you can with the current interface.

To create your Vu-Find account, click "Login" in the upper right hand corner of the screen, select "Create New Account" and follow the on-screen instructions.  More information on setting up your Vu-Find account is available at

For searching the NIU libraries, the Law Library web site will be modified to offer patrons the choice of using either Vu-Find or an updated version of the current catalog interface. This change will take place on or shortly after June 1.

If you have questions or comments about the Vu-Find interface or setting up a Vu-Find account, please feel free to contact Sharon Nelson in the Law Library.
